Produced by the Center Theatre, The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is the sweetest day in the state of Maine! Recognized in 2011 as the Maine State Treat, the Whoopie Pie has always held a place of honor in the stores of Maine and the hearts of Mainers everywhere. The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival was founded in 2008 by the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft as a celebration of the uniquely Maine dessert. The festival has grown from a small local event drawing several hundred people to a massive celebration drawing people from all corners of the state, country and even the world. In 2015, over 8,000 people descended on Dover-Foxcroft to sample whoopie pies from dozens of bakers around the state.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival was selected as the winner of the 2013 About.com New England Travel Readers’ Choice Award for Best New England Festival or Event. The award honors products, features and services from a dozen categories as selected by About.com readers. The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival won 60 percent of the vote in its category.
On the heels of this honor, the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival has announced another feather in its cap.
